Absences and Tardiness
The district board of trustees, or its designee, shall approve or disapprove any student’s absences in excess of ten days, whether lawful, unlawful, or a combination there of, for students in grades Pre-K through 5th.
Students are expected to be in school each day unless they are ill or have a death in the family. A written excuse should be brought in the day after being absent.
All students excused from school before regular dismissal time must have a parent or parent’s designee come into the office and sign the student out. Parents are urged to take children home early, only in the case of illness or emergency. Time lost in the classroom is difficult to recover. Please know that when a student is dismissed early, this greatly interferes with instruction. Teachers must stop instruction to give out homework assignments and prepare the student to leave. This takes time away from all of the other students.
The district will utilize a written intervention plan for improving student attendance. The purpose of the plan will be to link students with attendance problems and their families to all appropriate school and community resources. Any student who misses school must present a written excuse, signed by his/her parent/legal guardian.
If a student fails to bring a valid excuse to school within three school days of the student returning to school, he/she will automatically receive an unexcused absence.
Attendance notices will be sent to parents/guardians to inform you of days your child has missed from school. These notices will be sent out when your child has missed 3, 5, 7, and 10 days. All excessive absences will be submitted to the District Truancy office.
District Policy- Tardies and Early Dismissals
Uninterrupted class time is extremely important to the learning of all students. All students arriving to school after 8:00 a.m. must report to the office for an admission slip to class. A student will be allowed to be tardy (unexcused) three times with no consequences. On the fourth and all subsequent tardies, students will be assigned to after school detention the following day. Detention will not be held on Friday. Parents/ Guardians will need to pick up students from detention at 4 p.m.
As students being tardy pose a problem for our instructional day, so do early dismissals. Students will be allowed to be signed out early with no written appointment card three times. On the fourth and all subsequent early dismissals, students will be assigned to after school detention the following day. Detention will not be held on Friday. Parents/ Guardians will be responsible for picking up students from after school detention at 4 p.m.
Habitual violators will be addressed with additional consequences. Thank you for working with us to provide an uninterrupted school day for all students!
